The primary purpose of this ministry is to raise awareness of hunger in the world and locally. This is a hands-on ministry that everyone who can walk and/or donate can participate in. The Crop Walk is usually held the second Sunday in October.
Duties for this ministry:
Attend 2 or 3 organizational meetings.
Display Crop Walk Signs and literature.
Submit/make announcements for the bulletin and at all Masses, 3 weeks in advance of the Walk (with pastor's permission) .
Have a table set up in the back of church and sign up walkers and donors.
Call Men’s Club about making and donating popcorn for the day of the Walk.
On the day of the Walk, be at the Civic Center 45 minutes before the start of the Walk to handle St. Patrick registrations, and pass out stickers and pins.
Collect all packets and convert cash into one check and deliver to designated location.
Remove all signs that were put up around the church.
Skills, abilities, and gifts desired to serve in this ministry:
A willingness to attend meetings, put up posters, sign up walkers and donors.
The ability to speak in front of the congregation about the Crop Walk.
Organizational skills -- needed to keep track of the envelopes and money, and to follow up on any outstanding envelopes.
Trustworthiness in returning all of the monies collected.
