This Ministry is always aware of those parishioners who are seriously ill or in danger of dying, and aware of those parishioners who are recent widows or widowers. The Ministry calls on those less fortunate parishioners to visit, pray and bring the Body of Christ to them in their homes or residences where they currently live.
The duties for this ministry:
The Minister calls upon the sick of the parish as well as those who have recently lost a spouse or family member
They should bring the person the parish bulletin and any other information about the parish since they are unable to attend Mass
The Minister should pray with them and bring the Body of Christ to them as well as assure the person of the prayers and concerns of all of the parish family
This Minister should not feel rushed but spend some special time with the parishioner.
The skills, abilities, and gifts desired to serve in this ministry:
This Minister must be a baptized/confirmed Catholic with the true desire to reach out to their fellow parishioner
They should represent the parish and pray with as well as bring the Body of Christ to the Shut-In, lifting up their spirits and bringing them the love and concern of all the parish family
They must dress appropriately since they are represent the parish and offer to assist with whatever needs the Shut-In parishioner may have
The Minister should report to the pastor the condition of the Shut-In, and if they are seriously ill, arrange for the pastor to visit and anoint the parishioner.

The Eucharistic Minister should call their fellow parishioner, who is confined to their home, the day before their scheduled visit or at least the morning they intend to visit to be sure the Shut-in is up for a visit.
